Casters Make Moving Easy
Do you ever have a good idea and wonder
what took you so long to think of it? In our
household we have garage wars. By their
very nature, garages are empty spaces that
beg to be filled. However, it’s an ongoing
battle to keep the garage tidy and serviceable.
Part of the problem is the need for large areas
of space that are taken up by table saws,
bicycles, and other garage-related mess.
Well, this one idea will have you making the
space in your garage more serviceable when
you need it and can be incorporated inside
your home, too.
The need for speed
We all need to make things easier and better
in our lives. There’s no doubt about that.
When we need to get to something or use
something, we should be able to get to it.
That’s not the case very often in a garage.
Over five years ago I gave my husband a large
table saw as a present. That table saw never came out of the box until this spring and when it finally did get set up, it filled up a large part of the garage. We park one car in the garage, but if we ever needed to park the other car in the garage for an event such as a hurricane, we’d be stuck because this behemoth is too large to move. That’s when the idea struck. I told my dear husband, Tim, let’s mount the saw to a board that has casters underneath and then we can move it around the garage easily or move it out onto the driveway when we’re working on big projects.
Do wheelies
Tim got to work and cut two pieces of thick plywood and screwed them together and then he affixed casters to the plywood. We put the saw on top of the plywood, and voila! The saw was a cinch to move. The idea was pure genius. Now, we can move the table saw anywhere we need it. In fact, the idea was so good, the band saw also got its own table and caster arrangement. Affixing wheels to large items helps you to move them around easily and that saves your back. And when it came time to cut plywood for our windows so we’re prepared for the next hurricane, we were able to wheel the table saw onto the driveway effortlessly.
Cast away indoors
As you can see, the garage is a wonderful place to add casters and so is the house. Adding casters indoors helps you to move things faster and easier and with much less effort. Apply casters to ottomans and small tables. Casters on the bottoms of chairs will help you to move them and vacuum underneath. Don’t like wheels on your chairs? Then apply stick-on sliders. They’re on every chair and sofa in my house and everything slides and moves easily making rearranging a joy now and not a pain in my husband’s back. I can even move sofas easily by myself. Have some storage boxes under your bed? Casters applied to a small piece of plywood can be placed under the bed giving you easy pull-out storage. Storage is another perfect option for wheeled use. Try a wheeled wire organizer to help you to find lost items and enable you to get in the closet and really clean. Plastic drawer organizers on wheels are another wheeled item that makes great sense in the house. Make your living space easier to use and more effortless with the use of casters and sliders. It will save you energy, space, and prevent backaches.
