Decorating Projects -- Revamped Veranda
With some decorating help and little inspiration, you can turn a little-used porch, patio or veranda into an outdoor room. The veranda is a wonderful place to escape to and enjoy some beautiful weather. The problem with this veranda was that the space just wasn't that inviting.
The starting point for a revamp was simply to put down a beautiful stain and weatherproofing for the floor. This was applied with a paint pad on a pole. Corners and edges were cut in with a brush and then the large part of the floor was painted on with the pad. Time spent to cut in and paint was less than an hour. A second coat went on four hours later and only took about 15 minutes, but was well worth the time spent because the second coat really made the finish rich and deep looking.
The other problem on this veranda was a mish-mash of furniture. The furniture was too different from one another. Color needed to unify everything. There was a red-stained double chaise with a brightly colored striped fabric and a two-person bar-height dining set that was wrought-iron.
The dining set had recovered seats in a beige and sage stripe. So, I purchased a coordinating fabric to recover the chaise. The wood frame of the chaise was restained with the same stain from the floor to make it more unified. A simply envelope was made out of some outdoor fabric to create a new cover for the chaise. I ordered some extra long canvas panels and hung them on small PVC pipe that was painted black and made a stand-in for curtain rods. When the porch all came together, it was a cozy, unified look that created a new outdoor living area that's perfect for reading and napping in the breeze.
Give your outdoor spaces some indoor treatment.
