Create a Powerfully
Pink Girl’s Room
Even though kids are growing up
faster all the time, one thing that
has remained constant is a little
girl’s desire for a pink room. What
also hasn’t changed her parent’s
desire to make their decorating
efforts last. A standard pink room
will hold a little girl until she is
about eight or ten, but after
that a pink room is a serious
social hindrance for an up and
coming young lady and all
around cool chick.
To offset the likelihood of a complete design re-do, consider a pink bedroom with the end in mind. That is, if you’re thinking of creating a pink room for your little girl, give it some sophistication that will bring her all the way to high school. All it takes is more emphasis on sophistication and less on the sugar.
So, instead of a pink bedroom with white lacy frills and woodwork, give the bedroom some punch with black, pink, and white paint and accessories. The nice thing is that inexpensive furniture items can be purchased at garage sales and second-hand stores and then repainted for a high-end look.
For example, the furniture pieces in the photos are all items that look terrific painted. Inexpensive metal vanity chairs, found often in thrift stores, look incredible painted black, as does the headboard on the bed. The vanity is painted white and a simple armoire looks great painted pink outside and black inside.
Fabrics can mimic the paint to coordinate the room. The vanity chair used here is the type where the seat can be removed easily and recovered with a coordinating fabric. Notice, the large pink houndstooth check mixed with the pink high heel fabric and the small black houndstooth check. These non-traditional choices all have an extra dose of style and attitude.
Looking for still more sophistication? Just add more black. Black paint is a power color that gives instant sophistication just because of the daring it takes to use it! Ratchet up the style by adding a black rug in the center of the room, replace the pink valance with the same fabric that’s used on the pillow shams, and then flank either side of the window with black painted bookshelves.
Either way, this pink leaves Barbie in the dust and oozes cool sophistication. It’s a room any girl would love and that will cause shrieks of delight from all her sleepover guests. Go ahead and give your little girl a pink bedroom – just give it some punch.
